A creature concept for a personal project. I wanted a small dragon-ish creature that looked like less of a gold-hoarding gatekeeper and more of an active predator. I also wanted to throw a bit of uniqueness in the anatomical design of it. This will probably get more iterations later one, but for now I've carried the concept as far as I think is useful by itself.
The wings start out as two middle ribs that slightly protrude, and as the animal grows into an adolescent, the front ones display a little joint in the middle that allows useful function of the barbed tip. By the time it reaches adulthood, it is able to work these rib-limbs independently into a wing with a strong membrane between them that tucks away neatly when not in flight. Coupled with the large, fluffy feathers on the tail, if it were a real animal it would have amazing control in short flights. The scales have an iridescent shimmer that baffles the eye.
